New York Central FL9s
Photographs by "asterix"

In 1999, a special celebration was held in Peekskill, NY to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the arrival of the Hudson River Railroad. Metro-North was asked to paint two locomotives in New York Central colors to run a special train for the event. They selected FL9s 2012 and 2013. Even though the New York Central never owned an FL9, they did operate many F units with similar car bodies. The engines were painted at the North White Plains shop. The crew did an excellent job. The first engine out the door was the 2012. It was captured by "Asterix" in Brewster, NY the day after it was painted. The 2013 now has a permanent home at the Danbury Railway Museum.

Looking at the nose of the 2012. It may be an FL9, but it looks nice.

Just out of the paint shop, the 2012 looks brand new.
